Awards, PodCasts and Knitter's Shame

Well, first the good news... My SP swap pal, Allison has awarded me (and 9 others) a "You Made My Day" award. The deal is I must award this to 10 others (or there abouts)...so the timing is great. I was cleaning my stash closets since the move to the new house and it was kinda fun to recall old swap friends - I keep stuff in the envelope swap stuff is sent to me so when I do get into the stash, I can recall who sent it and pop them a note or whatever (yes, anal retentive I KNOW that.....). So, thank you Allison.

I mentioned to a friend of mine that in 2008 I really wanted to start a pod cast - and thought she'd be the perfect person to do it with me... well, last night while drifting off listening to knitting pod casts.. it came to me - mine should include a bit on not only knitting put spinning too. I am thinking of offering a contest - for some names of a pod cast. no guarantee at all that it will be used - but you will become famous right here on this blog.

Knitter's Shame: Oh please just send me to the naughty knitting chair - at least an hour should do it. I am done with the body of the Titled Duster (Interweave Knits). The next step is to pick up 138 stitches and start on the colar portion of the sweater... well, by golly, in my two years of knitting i have successfully avoided picking up stiches in any real way. I have done it for socks (who sees that mess? it's in my shoe!!) and the lacey thong undies - who will see that? (besides my daughter and son in law). NOpe, this "pick up stitches" is a big deal. I've had to call my LYS and ask for help... which she will give me on Tuesday.

I'll post pictures later this week.

A bit about my wand

Well, I am too thick to figure out how to cut and past the picture of my wand - so I'll just have to post here a little ditty about my wand, which is made from apple:

Apple:
It is an old English custom to drink to the health of the Apple tree with a good glass of cider all in hopes of encouraging the tree to produce a good crop next year. The apple tree symbolizes youth, beauty and innocence. Apple Wood wands are well suited for healing spells, and is an especially good kind of wand as it also helps to focus the energy very well. Apple wood wands tend to choose those who are slightly immature, or have a great youthful sprit. The wands tend to not respond well to those who do not fit it's temperament, and in fact are very unpopular among wand thieves as it tends to ignore the orders of others altogether. Apple's personality is Motherly Element:Water

so there you have it - I think apple makes a fine wood for wands

Pointy Sticks

Well, I am "pee my pants" excited on how far I have made it on my Tilted Duster sweater!! Oh ya - it has snowed three times since Christmas... pretty hu?? Last night I started on the 7th repeat of the skirt of the tilted duster..... see how my knitting needle just sparkles!!! After I finish the 8th and final repeat... I measure... should be 16" from cast on. Then, I pick up stitches to do the collar - and then the last step - attach the sleeves.. SWEET!!
On the HSKS4 update - last night was a feast in the Great Hall. There was a lively group of about 15 chatting away.....topics including muggle knitting needles, online yarn purchasting, which muggle booze goes best in tea - the usual stuff - LOL.
I took a quiz yesterday to figure out what my patronus is. It is a TOAD. Here is what the quiz results said: " The toad, most may see this as a humiliating patronus. I mean how are you supposed to strike t he fear into the hearts of evil with a toad - come on. But this patronus is far from a joke; its wisdom purpasses all, giving it a tactical advantage. And by using its massive and adhesive tongue it can spit it out at the enemy and suck it in, making your nemisis' come to you. Then subsequently swallows them....thus absorbing thier power and saving the day. Not a wise patronus to mess with! 27% from 41809 test takers had this profile!!" So, there you have it... I can only infer from this that with a tongue like that - I am an excellent kisser - LOL..
OK, back to work for me. Today is Tuesday, which tells me that my LYS has their "drop in" tonight... technically it starts at 4p and goes until 6p, but little worker bee that I am - I show up for the last hour. Sometimes everyone has headed for home, sometimes they are still there.... no matter - I have a sweater project and a pair of socks in my portable knitting bag - I can't take the Duster to knit in groups, too many distractions...

The last few days have been hectic. Here is my first Hufflepuff House Quiz. I hope I do well:

I am honored to say we have 5! For such a small house, I think that's nice. Don't you??

2. Which famous member of Hufflepuff is related to Sirius Black? Bonus points for tell me how.
I had to check around on this one and get some dirt. Nymphadora Tonks is related to Sirius. They are second cousins. You know what I always say, you can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your family.

Justin Finch-Flechley.

4. Who shared a recipe for Yule Logs?
Helga Lovegoods.

5. List the 3 Hufflepuffs that have listed in their blogs about their wands and what wood they are made of?
Cliodna Trelawney - Maple
Bella The Beautiful - Applewood
Antonia Marie dela Weasley - Mahogany.
Note to self: visit diagon alley this week. need supplies.

6. Who was locked out after forgetting the password?
the poor dear, it was Patunia Acromantula. I guess it's better than eating ear wax candies, don't you think??

OK. The exam is over and I am a bit less stressed. I need to get my muggle camera and take some pics... Guess what I did in my Potions class yesterday?? I ate PIGEON! I know - I know - kinda creepy, but you know what?? they taste good. So, if ya see any of those flying rats around Hogwarts - let me know... we'll have us a little BBQ!!

ttfn - off to some muggle event this evening - aren't they fasinating to watch??

Yes, I am Still Here, Why do you ask??

Howdy doody blog snoopers. yes, I am still amoung the land of the living. We survived the latest round of storms without damage to property or loss of life. Power was out at work for days (Friday to Wed) and at home from Friday am to the weeeeee hours of Sunday morning.

On the knitting front, I am on the 5th of 8 repeats on my Tilted Duster sweater (Interweave Knits magazine). I am really liking this sweater and can't wait to get the body done. Next step is picking up stitches for the collar and then finally, attaching the sleeves. My goal is to have it done for Stitches West!!

Under the category of "How Small is Our World" - I "met" a felllow Socks for Soldiers Knitter who lives about an hour or so from me and will also be at Stitches (a 4 hour drive away). We have plans to meet up. Here is the really funny part - apparently we have chatted (via email??) about our local spinning guild. Crazy hu??

Well, again no pics. I'll put a new battery in the camera and take some picsk of work in progress and get them posted. the HOgwarts Sock Kit Swap 4 begins in just days.. I can hardly wait. I have been sorted into Hufflepuff again this year.

Happy New Year!!

Well, 2008 has started off on an interesting note. We lost power on Friday, Jan 4 in the morning. We did not get power at work until yesterday, Jan. 8th. Brrrrrrr. Thankfully - we got power at home at some point late Saturday night or early Sunday morning... Now to play catch up at work!!

Knitting news: I am in my 3rd repeat of the Tilted Duster sweater (Interweave Knits pattern, done in Peruvia yarn in a brown/grey color, not sure of the name. I have socks on the needles, of course, and still plinkin' away on my sweater/wrap. I'll try to get some pictures posted soon.

I signed up for the Hogwarts Sock Kit Swap4. This is my second year and I have been assigned to the Hufflepuff House again.

Spinning News: Some members of the guild will be at a 4-H event on Saturday, Food Fiesta, to demonstrate spinning and perhaps get some kids interested in spinning and also fiber animals. Wouldn't it be nice to have a 4-H project animal that you could take to the fair and not get slaughtered??

OK, gots to run - the weather has been cold and Lucy the dog is inside today. must go home and let her out to potty. Doggie cancer update: The scare we had on 12/26 was all for not. No new cancer, just some holiday stress on her leg and some inflamation. She was an active girl getting lovies from all our house guests. So, thank goodness she is ok.

Knit on, until next time.
