Stitches West & Lucy The Wonder Dog

Picture Time!! I love the picture of Lucy - it makes her look so viscious.. she's YAWNING! I tried to take her picture and she'd look down, then up, then I guess she was bored out of her mind.. i clicked the picture just as she did one of those squeeky yawns....She goes in for a dental cleaning and x-rays to see if her hip is OK and if the swelling in her front foot is just inflamation from walking around.... the other two pics are of two sets of needles I got at Stitches West.. the tiny ones are a size 3, the larger is a size 25!! What, pray tell, would I make with a size 25 needle you ask?? Well, how about area rugs for the bathrooms and kitchen?? One pattern that came with the needles calls for 30 (THIRTY) strands held together - all lacey weight yarns.... but what a fun way to use up the partially used up balls of yarn in your stash... I don't recall the name of the company for the tiny needles, but I got to pick the lenght (7") the tip (stilletto) and the little end-cap thing. The large needles are from the booth "Extremen Knitting" - but that was not the company's name... they were also selling kits of purses - more pricey that I was willing to pay.... in the range of like $70 or so.. the liners that came with the kids were nice enough to be a purse all by themselves.. hence the hefty price. I sent off my HSKS4 package to my buddy - I spoiled "Cecilia Kettleburn" aka Angela - you can visit her at http://celticcrocheter.wordpress.com or her potter character blog at http://kettleburned.wordpress.com - the swap has been really fun - lots of interaction - very different than SecretPal swap, in that in the Potter swap - houses compete against each other for house points, etc. We also have quidditch matches - you have to look at other particiapnts blogs to find the snitch - I have yet to find it.. i guess it is hidden very well!!
On a totally diffrent subject - The Boy Child is now a proud member of the US Army! He has requested a pair of socks, a helmet liner and a v-neck pullover sweater, which I got the yarn for the other day. So, off I go to pick up my pointy sticks... more pics later of Stitches West purchases later. TTFN

Tilted Duster

Here is what the Tilted Duster looked like a week or so ago... Pretty, no?? it now has about 3/4 of the collar done!! Another row or two and I'll be doing the second button hole row... then to
attach the sleeves! I know it will not be done in time to wear it to Stitches West, I had such hopes for that - oh well. The battery in the camera is dead - so i'll see about charging up the battery and taking pictures later this week.
On a personal note, The Boy Child leaves in the am for a visit with his Army Recruiter - and then off to MEPS to select a job....keep him in your prayers that he does not pick some dumb-ass job that would include being responsible for blowing stuff up....i keep telling him to pick a job that would transfer into civilian life and he says that is what he will do, but still - his two best buddies are in tanks or other jobs that - in my opinion - put them in greater harms way.. so - the mommy factor comes in... stay safe... oh ya that's right.. he's joining the army - not too much safe about that is there?? Now he has requested helmet liners for he and his buddies... time to pick up my pointy sticks..

HSKS Quiz & Update

Well - I survived flying and my business trip. I made it through airport security no fuss no muss - unless you count that somehow, the back of my watch (the battery cover thing) somehow fell off while going thru the x-ray thing and my laptop's hinges got broken somehow - all while just sitting in that hard plastic tub as it goes on the conveyer belt... WHATT?????? How does that even happen?? Now my busy work comes in - lots of post conference work to be done and due dates due dated due dates..... RATS.

I have a quiz to do for the HSKS4 - i have to figure out what number goes with what letter of the alphabet to solve a word problem.. my only clues are that the letter "E" is "12" and "L" is "2" - seems impossible.. i'll have to find some muggle kids who are wizzes in math to help me!

Gotta run - if I get work done tonight - I can work on my tilted duster tomorrow and go to knit night.

Almost packed and ready to go

First let me say that I don't MIND flying - it's just that it is so darn inconvienient these days to fly. I leave on Thursday for a conference and I'll be gone until Monday. I have packed my computer bag - only to have to take it apart to go thru security. I have a printer packed too, which will be a carry on - since I must have it in an "unbroken" state during my conference.

then there is the packing clothes bit. What to wear - well shoes that you can take on/off to get thru security, but yet, sturdy enough to stay on your feet should you be in a position to actually use your seat cushion as a floatation device. CAVEAT: They only tell you the seat can do this, they never actually show you HOW to use it as a floaty.... cute hu??

So anyway - I have prepared my agendas, I have prepared my meeting stuff. I am ready to go. Now to go home, do a bit more laundry and see about packing outfits so that I don't end up with 5 pairs of shoes in my bag. Am I the only one who packs slippers?? I hate walking on tile floors (hotel bathrooms - you don't know whose naked feet have been there before you). Anyway - obvioulsy i have all kinds of "issues" germs, texture (food and flooring) etc etc. Its amazing I can leave the house at all.

Ohhhhh - and what to bring on the plane to knit?? Well, no to the tilted duster - still need to pick up those 100+ stitches to do the collar - then there is my Big Black Socks for Socks for Soldiers - I'd die a thousand deaths if I lost a BBS while flying (i'd make national news if security denied my BBS on the plane) so - I guess that leaves my trekking socks or the other sweater doodah I am making.. I don't even know the yarn... Devvy made me make it (just kidding) so I am...

OK.... the dog has been inside for a few (6) hours now.. must go home.. If I don't post while at my conference - not too sure about the internet hook up there - I'll post some pictures of the hotel and me hard at work when I get back on Monday.. Until then - pick up those pointy sticks and knit....
PSS: looking of name for podcast - what do ya'll think of "Spin Me A Yarn" - a podcast about spinning and knitting??
